Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes often use an ambush method of hunting. The snake will coil in the Reinert Posture at the base of a log or palmetto bush. They have been known to sit for as long as seven days without moving.
The mouth of tortoise burrows is often chosen as an ambush spot. Mammals such as rats or rabbits chosing the wrong burrow to enter often find themselves as prey.
