Rattlesnake Antivenin

THIS IS NOT TO BE CONSIDERED A MEDICAL REFERENCE. CONSULT AN EXPERIENCED AND LICENSED MEDICAL PHYSICIAN. I AM NOT A DOCTOR. DO NOT USE THIS INFORMATION FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES. IT WAS GATHERED FROM THE INTERNET AND MAY NOT BE CORRECT.

Antivenin is a chemical which neutralizes venom. Antivenin is made by injecting an animal, usually a sheep or horse, with small doses of venom over a period of time. The animal builds an immunity to the venom. Blood is then harvested from the animal, and the antivenin is extracted from the animal's blood.

Antivenins reported to work on Crotalus adamanteus venom currently manufactured are:

CroFab - Antivenin (Crotalidae) Polyvalent Immune Fab (Ovine) (Systemic)

Envenomation, pit viper (treatment)—Antivenin ( Crotalidae ) polyvalent immune Fab (ovine) is indicated for the treatment of minimal or moderate envenomation caused by bites of North American crotalid species, including the Western Diamondback rattlesnake ( Crotalus atrox ), Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake ( C. adamanteus ), Mojave rattlesnake ( C. scutulatus ), and Cottonmouth or Water Moccasin ( Agkistrodon piscivorus ).

My Book

I got your book in a flash! Todd Poole got one at the Herp. Symposium at Riverbanks that I missed due to the weather. He shared his with me, and it had such useful info. in it, that I wanted one right away. I am doing a program on March 1 and wanted to show it to the participants.

Thanks again,
